It is shown by default, until the According to the Government of India, a student visa is meant for students who wish to study in an Indian institute or university.
Such student visas are issued for the duration of the academic course or for a period of five years (whichever is less). These can only be granted based on letters of admission from universities or recognized educational institutions in India. Children of NRIs and PIOs cardholders need not procure a student visa. Other international students need student visas or research visas for Doctoral-level courses.
If you are applying on a scholarship issued by the Government of India, the respective Indian Missions is advised by the ICCR to issue a regular student visa after your enrolment is confirmed.
